Upper Glem Valley

The Upper Glem Valley is one of the most attractive areas in High Suffolk and local residents as well as rambling groups from outside the area enjoy walking in this beautiful rural countryside with its medieval houses and churches.

Hartest Hill is popular with cyclists and famous for its steep gradient, with the reward of one of the finest views of Suffolk when they reach the top, featuring the Glem Valley..

These groups are amongst many visitors that bring business to local pubs and B&Bs.

The rural landscape will be ruined irrevocably and made industrial with ugly panels, fences, substations, increased traffic, and probably increasing the risk of flooding the River Glem.

Solar farms located on north-facing slopes are less efficient and use significantly more land to generate less electricity compared to those on flat land or south-facing slopes so this proposal is relatively inefficient.

This is one of the few areas in Suffolk that has real hills –The Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Project Area, which the proposed solar farm sits within, is criss-crossed with footpaths giving wonderful views across this historic valley landscape – all to be completely blighted if this scheme is approved.

The historic and wildlife context of County Wildlife Site ancient woodland (that are in receipt of government grants to improve them) will be seriously compromised by the insensitive siting of such a massive scheme.
